RAPHAEL ALEXANDRE LUSTCHEVSKY made his international debut at the age of sixteen at Suntory Hall in Tokyo and Festival Hall in Osaka with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. Fourteen years later at the age of thirty he has carved out an international career, having performed with great success in North and South America, Asia and nearly all the countries of Europe.
After gaining a Master's degree in Performance at the Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland, he furthered his studies at the International Piano Academy at Imola in Italy and finally at the Hochschule fur Musik at Weimar, Germany, where he studied under Lazar Berman.
A distinguished prizewinner at such international piano competitions as the Clara Schumann in Düsseldorf, Maria Canals in Barcelona and Luis Sigall in Chile, Raphael Alexandre Lustchevsky took First Prize at the 1995 UNESCO-International Dinu Lipatti Competition in Bucharest, Rumania, thereby establishing himself as one of the finest pianists of the younger generation.
Since 1999 Lustchevsky has been working extensively in South America, teaching at universities in Brazil and Bolivia. Currently a professor of piano at the National University of Costa Rica, he will this year be giving masterclasses and lectures in Scotland, Costa Rica, Panama and India.
"His command of the instrument is masterfully impressive – I had the impression that there is nothing he could not do on the piano. He has a great sound, thrilling technique and possesses that rare gift of making you feel he is playing for you especially. On this occasion he was greeted with thunderous applause, confirming my impression." - James Galway, OBE
