The Ninth Bangkok Chopin Piano Competition

Monday 24th October 2011 -Sunday 30th October 2011
at the Thai-German Cultural Foundation Auditorium
Soi Goethe, Sathorn 1, Bangkok

Scope and Purpose

The Bangkok Chopin Society is organizing the Ninth Bangkok Chopin Piano Competition to promote young talents in the performance of piano music, especially that of Chopin. It provides an opportunity to discover, develop and nurture young musicians as well as bring piano performance to levels of artistry and excellence.

 

Eligibility

The competition is open to pianists of all nationalities who have been residents of Thailand for at least 2 years immediately before the competition.

 

Repertoire

- All works prepared for the competition are to be performed from memory and without repeats. A prize winner of the Bangkok Chopin Piano Competition must not play the same composition again in the current competition. All works are by Chopin unless otherwise stated.
- The application age is based on the year of birth (the age in the bracket is for quick reference only.)
- All decisions made by the jury shall be final and incontestable.
Lost Date of Entry : 30 June 2011

 

Applicants born between 1998-1996 (age 13-15) for the Second Age Category
are required to perform the following pieces in one stage:


1) - Any piece selected from three-part Inventions by J.S. Bach

2) - One Etude from Trois Nouvelle Etudes Opus Posthumous

3) - Two Mazurkas selected from the same Opus
Op.6 or Op.7 or Op.67 or Op.68

4) - One Chopin Nocturne selected from
- Op.9 No. 1 or No.2;
- Op.32 No.1 or No.2
- Op.37 No. 1
- Op.55 No.1
- Nocturne in C# Minor Op.Posthumous (Lento con gran espressione)
- Nocturne in E Minor Op. Posthumous (Op.72)

5) - One Waltz selected from :
Waltz in E Flat Major Op.18
Waltz in A Flat Opus 42,
Waltz in A Flat Op.34 No.1 ,
Waltz in F Major Op.34 No.3,
Waltz in D Flat Major Op.70 No.3

6) - One Polonaise selected from
G# minor Opus Posthumous ,
B Flat Minor Opus Posthumous
G Flat major Opus Posthumous .
