
D&M Music Studio presents a joint piano recital by three international artists Juyeon Kang and Sang Woo Kang from Korea and May Phang from Singapore at Goethe Institute on June 7 at 8pm.
A familiar face in the Bangkok scene, Juyeon currently assistant professor of music at the Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa was awarded top prizes from many piano competitions in Texas, New York, Italy and Korea.
The Korean pianist earned a doctoral and masters degrees in piano performance and literature, as well as a master's degree in pedagogy of music theory at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York where she was also awarded a distinguished performers certificate.
The upcoming concert will see her perform Mozart's Allegro in B Flat Major, K 400, Adagio in B minor, K 540 and Rondo in F Major, K 404; and Liszt's Grand Etudes of Paganini.
A native of Seoul, Sang Woo made his orchestral debut with the Colorado Pueblo Symphony Orchestra at the age of 9, and accolades soon followed. He is a graduate of Juilliard School and the Eastman School of Music, where he received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree. The talented pianist later made his solo recital debut at Concert Hall in St Petersburg Conservatory, Russia.
He successfully balances an active performing career as a soloist and chamber musician with teaching at Providence College, where he is assistant professor of music.
At this concert, he will perform Mozart's Piano Sonata K 330, Liszt's Concert Etude No. 2 and Chopin's Scherzo No. 1 in B Minor Op 20.
A prize winner of several competitions in New York, Canada and France, May Phang has performed with orchestras such as the Banff Chamber Players, Singapore Symphony, Montreal Symphony, and the Philadelphia Orchestra.
A graduate of McGill University in Canada, the Singaporean pianist obtained her doctorate from Temple University in Philadelphia. She is assistant professor of piano at DePauw University.
This time she will perform Mozart's Rondo in A Minor, K 511, Hummel's Rondo in E-flat major, Op 11 and Liszt's Sonnetto del Petrarch 123.
